• School Supply Drive For Flood Victims

A HUGE THANK YOU goes out to the 35 volunteers, and the Greenville Girl Scouts, who gave up their time to help pack backpacks filled with school supplies.  There were a total of 400 backpacks and 10 teacher bags brought up to the mountain for the Windham Ashland Jewett Central School District.  We also have 100 bags that were filled for children throughout Greene County who were placed in other districts due to the hurricane.  This project would not have been successful without your support and dedication and for that I want to THANK YOU!!  I am truly blessed to be a part of a great organization like the Capital District YMCA and working in a community that is dedicated to helping their neighbors!!

  • Kids of the Week

Liam and Ella BlesiLiam and Ella Blesi are two of very loving and caring kids.  Since their little brother Brode was born 17 months ago, Liam and Ella have loved playing and teaching him new things.  Recently Liam sat with Brode to teach him how to tie his shoes.  Brode sat, watched, and listened during the entire 20 minute process and both were happy as can be when they were finished. Ella decided all on her own one night she would get everything ready for Brode's bedtime.  She made him a bubble bath and got what he needed ready to go with it..she even left a little note card by the tub that said "Brode".. Brode is so lucky to have these two very loving siblings to grow up with and learn from.

It’s these simple gestures that make Liam and Ella our Capital District YMCA Kids of the Week.  If you know of outstanding kids in our community, nominate them to be the next YMCA Kid of the Week at www.CDYMCA.org.

  • Kid of the Week

This High School Football season, the Capital District YMCA and Time Warner Cable Sports are teaming up to bring you the "Kid of the Week".  Today we are introducing you to two kids who have made a tremendous impact in their community and their family.

    Colin HodgeColin Hodge
    Age 13
    Scotia, NY

Colin is a kind and caring young man who is a member of a National Tae Kwon Do team.

Colin volunteers to teach Tae Kwon Do three times a week and is the first to volunteer to help younger campers at YMCA Summer Camp.

This socially responsible honor student also makes a difference in his school by serving on the student council at Scotia Middle School.

    Tom Budka Jr.Tom Budka Jr.
    Age 12
    Scotia, NY

This 12 year old recently showcased two of the YMCA’s core values of Caring and Responsibility when his mother had surgery.  Tom became her “nurse”, making sure she had her medication, plenty of ice to keep the swelling down and ran errands to the local market for groceries and supplies.

For going above and beyond the duties of a 12-year-old, Tom is this weeks Kid of the Week.

You can nominate a Kid of the Week at http://www.cdymca.org/youthdevelopment/kidoftheweek.aspx
