National Grid Brings STEM to Children in Need
National Grid Gets the Gold Star for helping the Y deliver Science Crew (critical STEM programming) to scores of at-risk school children in our care. The results are in, and kids love science!
Thanks to National Grid, the Children’s Museum of Science and Technology (CMOST) piloted a STE(a)M based after-school program with their Science Crew.
Over 200 students in grades 2-5 were introduced to a variety of science, technology, engineering and math concepts in this hour-long, weekly program for 20 weeks.
Upon completion of the program, we found that student’s specific STEM content knowledge increased at each of the five program sites on average by over 40%!
In addition, it was noted that there was an increase in student’s value of science, desire to do science, and their overall attitudes towards science by over 5% on average in just 20 hours of contact.
