The spin room may be intimidating—there are a lot of bikes in a small space. Don’t be nervous. Hop on and prepare for a great workout!
Here are a few things you need to know before your first spin class:
Instructors are high energy
Classes are generally set to music. Your instructor works hard to keep the energy of the room high. They will shout, cheer, and make jokes. Have fun with it!
Set-up is important
It’s extremely important to set up your bike in advance. Adjust the height of your seat, the pedals, and the handlebars to match your body. This will make the class more comfortable and easier on your body.
Expect a vigorous workout
Spin workouts are fast-paced and high energy. For 40 to 60 minutes you will be working your core muscles and sweating your butt off. Make sure you’re eating and hydrating well in advance in order to set yourself up for success.
You can go at your own pace
Even though this is a fast-paced workout, you can work at your own speed. You know your body and you know your limits. If you need to move a little slower, do that! Especially if you’re new to class. Take it slow. Find your groove!
Wear the right clothes
Make sure your clothes are not too tight and not too loose. If they’re too tight, you’ll be uncomfortable. If they’re too loose, they could get in the way. Wear light, breathable clothing that moves when you movie!
This is a fast-paced workout. You will sweat more than you think you will. To stay hydrated, show up to class with a full water bottle and a towel. This will keep your energy up for the entire workout.
Unlike other group exercise classes, this class requires equipment. There are a limited number of bikes at each location—be sure to show up early and reserve you bike. This will also give you time to prepare for the upcoming class.
