The Capital District YMCA is pleased to announce the promotion of Jean Berry to the role of Regional Aquatics Director, responsible for our Albany and Bethlehem branches. In this newly created position, Jean will oversee the aquatics department of both branches, including operation of the pool, development of aquatics programs, staff development, and budget management.
In her new role, Jean will work to grow robust aquatics programs in Albany, Bethlehem and the surrounding communities. Related programming includes swimming lessons for all abilities and ages, aquatic fitness programs for teens, adults and active older adults, and oversight of swim teams and coaches. In addition, Jean will provide lifeguard training programs, community CPR and first aid programs, water safety presentations, and aquatics in service and CPR/First aid trainings for aquatics departments at the branches.
“Jean has gone above and beyond to learn all the aspects of running a successful YMCA aquatics department,” noted David Brown, President and CEO of the Capital District YMCA. “Under Jean’s leadership, high quality aquatics programs are being offered at the Capital District YMCA.”
Most recently, Jean has been employed by the Capital District YMCA as the Aquatics Director at the Albany Branch. Jean began her Y career in 2009 as Head Lifeguard at our Troy YMCA and Site Supervisor of our school-age childcare site at Menands Elementary School. Jean then transitioned into teaching 5th Grade math at Achievement Academy in Albany, from 2011 to 2013 and then 8th Grade honors math at Brighter Choice Middle School for Boys, from 2013 to 2015. In May of 2015, Jean was hired as the Aquatics Director at our Albany branch where she successfully oversaw all aspects of the aquatics department and demonstrated leadership in product group, Annual Campaign, branch operations and staff development.
Jean earned her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Criminal Justice (Cum Laude) from Medaille College in 2005, and her Master’s of Science degree in Childhood Education from Sage Colleges, in 2011.
