A Guide to Healthy Holidays
When the holiday season comes around, it’s a little too easy to let go of your healthy ways. Here are some tips and tricks on how to stay on top of your health and fitness goals during the winter months.
Eat normally throughout the day
Don’t starve yourself for the big feast. Eating at the same times you do most days not only will keep your blood sugar down, but will help you make better decisions on what and how much to eat later that night.
This doesn’t mean you have to go out on a run, (though we’re not saying not to) but just incorporate daily activities. Going on walks with your family, sledding, and shoveling snow in your front yard are great examples. Getting those extra steps in helps you and your family stay fit.
Feel free to share
Sharing leftover cookies and baked goods with coworkers after the holidays not only makes you feel great, it also limits the amount of calories you’re getting. Spread the joy of the holidays while getting rid of desserts that will tempt you at home.
Use a smaller plate
Using a smaller plate tricks your mind into thinking that there are bigger portions. Make sure to start with the healthy food, such as salads and vegetables, so you’re full and not as tempted when dessert time comes around.
Last of all, slow down during meals
Eating slowly gives your brain more time to process that you ate and are full. Try counting to 30 with every bite. Counting your bites helps keep you conscious about how much you are eating, so you don’t over eat. Make sure not to deprive yourself of anything, but keep everything in moderation!
