If you’re new to working out, or are trying to get back into a steady gym routine, it can be hard to dive right in. It’s difficult to find the motivation. Changing your eating habits can be difficult, and priorities are hard to reorganize. So how do you overcome it? You invite your significant other to join your workout! Here’s what working out with your partner can do for you:
More Together Time
If you work out with your significant other, that’s an extra hour or two that you would normally spend apart. Think about it. You leave the office around 5:00pm, head to the gym, get home at 7:00pm, make dinner and go to bed at 10:00pm. That less than three hours of quality couple time each day! You can nearly double that by working out together.
Share Exercise Benefits
Exercise leads to less stress, better sleep, and a sharper mind. In a relationship, this can lead to less fighting and more intellectual conversations. You might skip the Netflix binge and opt for a rousing game of Scrabble—or at the very least, Words with Friends.
Your partner knows you. They know how to boost your spirits and they know your subtle signs. Who better to pick you up when you’re feeling down?
Healthy Habit Buddy System
Changing your eating habits can be extremely difficult. It’s great to have a support system—knowing that your partner won’t be eating a three-tier grilled cheese while you eat steamed broccoli and kale. They will be right there with you.
As Elle Woods said, “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy.” Exercising will boost your mood and make you happier throughout the day.
Get a Couples Discount
At the YMCA, you can sign up as a couple and save money on your membership. Your portion of the membership will probably be less than a single adult membership, plus you’ll have someone there to make sure you’re using it. As a bonus, you can sign up for Personal Training sessions under our Valentine’s Day Promotion.
Always Have Something to Do
You will no longer sit around wondering what to do. You’ll exercise. Get out in the world. Go for a hike. Snowshoe. Try to beat your personal records on the track. Whatever your goals may be, your partner will help you meet them!
