Promotion for Ross Jordan at the Capital District YMCA

Ross_JordanThe Capital District YMCA is pleased to announce the promotion of Ross Jordan to the newly created position of Executive Director of Aquatics and Safety for the association. In his new role, Ross will oversee the daily aquatics and safety operations of all association branches, to ensure that members, volunteers, and staff have an outstanding experience, every day, at every YMCA location.

“Ross has a clear commitment to the Y,” explained David Brown, President and CEO of the Capital District YMCA. “Ross has gone above and beyond to learn the many aspects involved in successfully running Y aquatics programs, and ensuring member safety across our association. Ross understands what it takes to deliver high quality programs and services at the Capital District YMCA.

Ross has more than 20 years of experience in the Y movement, and more than 10 years working with Aquatics for the Y. His experience illustrates his commitment to progressive leadership and responsibility. Ross has served as a Group Leader, Childcare Site Supervisor, Lifeguard, Aquatics Director, Regional Aquatics Director, Senior Program Director, and most recently as the Director of Operations for our Greenbush and Albany branches.

Ross is respected by his peers and colleagues for his tireless commitment to the safety and well-being of our members and our community, and for the team-first attitude he brings to every aspect of his work at the Y.

When asked about his leadership style, Ross will tell you he follows in the path of leaders such as Canadian Astronaut Chris Hadfield, who said: “Ultimately, leadership is not about glorious crowning acts. It’s about keeping your team focused on a goal and motivated to do their best to achieve it, especially when the stakes are high and the consequences really matter. It is about laying the groundwork for others’ success, and then standing back and letting them shine.”

Ross holds a Bachelor’s degree in History and Secondary Social Studies from SUNY Cortland.
