Are you sticking around for Memorial Day weekend but want to do something fun with the family? The Y may be closed on Memorial Day Monday, but we live in an amazing area with lots of fun things to do!

Here’s out list of fun, family-friendly activities outside the Capital Region:

Visit Bannerman Castle

Travel by passenger boat or kayak to get to Bannerman Island and take a tour of the historic and mysterious Bannerman Castle! With history dating back to the American Revolution, you’ll have a great time learning and seeing the sites with the entire family! If you have small children, we recommend traveling by passenger boat as there is a good amount of walking during the tour.

Hike Cobble Hill

This is a great hike for children of all ages! The entire hike is about 2.4 miles round trip with minimal difficulty resulting in amazing view from the top! The hike may be short, but it’s within walking distance from Lake Placid’s Main Street where you can spend the rest of the day eating and shopping.

Visit the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge and Rehab Center

Adirondack Wildlife is a rehabilitation and education organization, whose mission is to take in, rehabilitate and, whenever possible, to return to the wild, injured or otherwise disabled wildlife. They host a number of local wildlife from wolves, bear, and eagles to bobcats and opossums! It’s a great place to learn about indigenous wildlife.

Take a Trip to How Caverns

Go underground and learn about stalagmites and stalactites while traveling by boat through a series of caves! In addition, they have rock walls, zipline, and more. It’s a fun adventure for the entire family.

Go Ziplining

New York Zipline Canopy Tours offers three family-friendly ziplining options. You will travel through the skies and above the trees, seeing the area from a brand new point of view! You can even go at night!

Take a Ride down the Ausable River

Visit the Ausable Chasm in the Adirondacks for an unforgettable experience. You can go white water rafting, rock climbing, tubing, or biking! Looking for something a little less adventurous? You can always walk the nature trails or take a floating raft tour!
