Juliet and Ashli’s Fitness Story: Day Four
Week One Challenge: Working Out Before Work
This is the fourth day of our five day workout challenge. How are we doing so far? We will be updating this post every couple of hours until 7:00pm so you can see how working out before work affects our day. If you have any suggestions or comments, please feel free to share online or through the Contact Us section of the website!
The Workout: 6:00am to 8:00am
Ashli: I was really excited to get up today for a couple reasons: 1. Thursday is my favorite work day of the week. 2. My 82 year old grandfather had agreed to work out at the same time as me this morning – I just love him! 3. I have a work event tonight surrounding the NCAA tournament – so fun! 4. Juliet and I have had some great conversations surrounding where we’re taking this show!
Juliet: I was the complete opposite of Ashli this morning. I struggled to get out of bed. Seriously considered skipping it, but then I must’ve caught Ashli’s happy vibes and I got out of bed! I went to the Schenectady Y. Ran 4 miles then cooled down with a sauna sit. I took a page out of Ashli’s book and watched an episode of TV while I ran. I settled on American Housewife and they even gave the YMCA a shoutout! Talk about serendipity.
The Morning: 8:00am to 10:00am
Ashli: My work out consisted of doing some stuff in the wellness center, including running, but also using some of the equipment we have in the dedicated Personal Training Studio. Super fun. A quick shower and it was off to the races for a very busy day!
Juliet: I had a super stressful morning at work and I am extra thankful I actually did work out this morning. It made a stressful morning more manageable and I had the energy to power through. It was amazing!
Mid-Morning: 10:00am to 12:00pm
Ashli: There is literally no time to be tired or “take a break”. I’m so hungry and a little sore – it’s been awhile since I’ve consistently run on the treadmill! … I did get asked a couple times, “did you actually watch This Is Us on the treadmill?” and the answer is yes! Intervals or watching TV (hulu/netflix – with sound!) are the only way I can personally get through a treadmill work out multiple days in a row!
Juliet: I’m not a treadmill person, or a running person. It takes a lot of mental stamina that I haven’t quite figured out yet. I’ve always enjoyed sprints. Well, “enjoyed” might be a strong word. Enjoyed them more than long distance running. Get in. Get out. And you’re done! So, I’ve been pretty impressed with the fact that I ran 4 miles today and I owe it all to Ashli’s TV trick.
Lunchtime: 12:00pm to 2:00pm
Ashli: I love Subway and it was my best option as I left one meeting and drove to the next! I love meetings where people are excited about what’s to come! Now I have to quickly get back to the Y and get ready for Basketball and Brews!
Juliet: I’m quickly wrapping up a few things here at work before my break. We are shooting a promotional video tonight at the Schenectady YMCA for Handball! I haven’t played in a few years, but it should be fun. If you’re looking for something to do tonight, come join us! It’s free!
The Afternoon: 2:00pm to 4:00pm
Ashli: Set up shop and we’re ready to go and I am feeling guilt-free about this evening because my workout is finished. I’ve been thinking a lot this week about how much I enjoy the fact that the AM has been my dedicated workout time, so there’s nothing that gets in the way…once I get over the initial wake up phase, I get to focus on my health and well-being and be better for myself and others throughout the day because of it!
Juliet: I’m wishing Ashli the best of luck at her event tonight. If you enjoy basketball and brews, you should go! All benefits go towards our Annual Campaign that help families in need across the Capital Region. Have a beer, help some kids!
I’m looking forward to my second workout of the day!
The Evening: 4:00pm to 7:00pm
Ashli: I’m actually a little sad that tomorrow is the last day of THIS challenge … I look forward to shooting a recap video for everyone to see and I look forward to next week and Juliet and I take on something new! Fingers crossed the AM workout is not just a phase for me, the the start of a new and improved routine!
Juliet: I know that this challenge is almost over, but I’m going to miss it. I may even keep it going! But for the next installment of our challenge, we are going to ask YOU what you want to see! So get your gears moving. We’re open to anything!
