Juliet and Ashli’s Fitness Story: Day One

Week One Challenge: Working Out Before Work

As this is our first day doing our new fitness challenge, we’re not sure what to expect! We will be updating this post every couple of hours until 7:00pm so you can see how working out before work affects our day. If you have any suggestions or comments, please feel free to share online or through the Contact Us section of the website!

The Workout: 6:00am to 8:00am

Ashli: I did not want to get up this morning – aside from being tired (who’s idea was it to start on the week of the time change?!) I’m actually sore from spending my weekend moving (which I absolutely can’t stand doing!) Nothing was more motivating to get up and out than checking to see if Juliet maybe forgot we were supposed to start today – hahaha! Nope! There she was on Instagram running and squatting the morning away.

Now, I am the first one to preach about accountability and all the benefits but this time – the teacher became the student and I was up and out of bed feeling like I had already let Juliet down a little because I was heading into the Y about 20 minutes after she had finished.

Stretch, run, free weights, dead-lift – before I knew it, I was in and out with a great sweat AND a great attitude – even spilling half my water bottle in my car wasn’t enough to get me down!

Being that I was a hot mess express this morning, I hadn’t packed a bag (rookie mistake) so I had to get back home to shower quick and come into work. Breakfast on the go is a little more difficult when you don’t drink coffee (52 days and counting!) but I made it work by swinging into Starbucks for some chai tea.

Juliet: I started my workout at 6:00am on the dot. I kicked off my morning at the Schenectady Y by running a quick mile before diving into the dreaded leg day. I did squats, leg press, leg extension, and the calf raise. I’m assuming there were more, but those are the ones that haunt me the most.

They say that your legs are the most sore, two days after your workout, so that’s something to look forward to…

Waking up early wasn’t as tough as I had anticipated. It was the struggle to boost my energy post-workout to get to work!

The Morning: 8:00am to 10:00am

Juliet: I got into the office around 8:30am and started my morning with my usual breakfast: Cinnamon English Muffin with peanut butter and Nutella. While the Nutella is probably unnecessary, I convince myself that the protein in the peanut butter and English Muffin balances it out.

I wore heels to work today, which is proving to be the wrong decision. It’s putting extra tension on my already sore legs!

Mid-Morning: 10:00am to 12:00pm

Ashli: Felt great about buzzing through the morning, before I knew it – it was lunch time! I was able to hop up Hoosick Street and aside from the distraction of the bakery when I first walked in, I felt great about my grab and go lunch.

Juliet: It’s 11:20am and I am insanely hungry. Too hungry, considering I only ate breakfast 3 hours ago. I decide to hold off and wait for my actual lunchtime (1:00pm).

Lunchtime: 12:00pm to 2:00pm

Ashli: The afternoon seemed to go by so fast as well!! Again, I felt AWESOME about knowing I was teaching classes until 630 and I wouldn’t have to figure out a workout after that!

Juliet: I’m still super hungry, but when I get home for lunch, I check in on my Crockpot food: quinoa and veggies. As it turns out, I made WAY too much. I consider this my meal prep for the week. Meal prep is just cooking too much food and packaging it up for the week, right?

The Afternoon: 2:00pm to 4:00pm

Ashli: Meetings, meetings and more meetings meant water, water and more water! Which I was happy to oblige by!

Juliet: My legs are less sore than they were this morning, so that’s promising. I’m still super hungry, even after eating too much quinoa. So I splurge on a pack of Cheez It’s from the vending machine. Don’t judge me too much. I have TRX Press tonight at the Guilderland Y, so I’ll need the extra cheese-boost of energy.

The Evening: 4:00pm to 7:00pm

Ashli: Getting ready to teach I was excited about how much energy I had but nervous about how sore I was seemingly becoming!

Well! 3 and 4 year olds are good for the soul and the muscles! Stretching with them was awesome and so helpful!! Driving home up the north way was a happy experience and making dinner was so fun!
TOTALLY looking forward to tomorrow!

Juliet: I had TRX Press at the Guilderland Y tonight and, man was it tough! My legs were shaking from this morning’s workout, so it was tougher than usual.

I drank at least 6 bottles of water today, which is WAY more than usual. I felt really good about that. Plus, I still had some energy from this morning which was surprising!

Let’s see how tomorrow goes!
