Juliet and Ashli’s Fitness Story: Day Three
Week One Challenge: Working Out Before Work
This is the third day of our five day workout challenge. How are we doing so far? We will be updating this post every couple of hours until 7:00pm so you can see how working out before work affects our day. The Workout: 6:00am to 8:00am
Ashli: This morning I worked out a little later than normal, but I felt like I had the best work out of the week today. Here’s why…I love running – outside. Treadmills drive me crazy but nothing makes me feel as good as I do when I run! And I have been STRUGGLING to get back into it; but today, the accountability factor involving Juliet AND the motivation from all the people that voted in our poll yesterday, was enough to get me on the treadmill AND feeling amazing. So my first thought of the day is to be grateful to those around me who have helped me to feel motivated on this week-long journey!
Juliet: They were right. My legs are extra sore today from Monday’s workout. Walking down the stairs into the Schenectady YMCA Wellness Center was tough and painful, but it’s great to know that your workouts are working! Sore muscles mean you’re doing something right.
This morning, I took it easy. I did an ab circuit and walked a half a mile. Don’t worry, I’m not slacking. I took it easy because I have my Learn to Box class at the Guilderland YMCA this morning at 9:30am. There is such thing as too much exercise! You don’t want to push yourself into an injury.
The Morning: 8:00am to 10:00am
Ashli: Umm…Juliet is killin’ the game today! I’m thoroughly impressed by her multiple work outs and it’s making me want to sign up for something cool and new….unlike her, I AM hungry #always Also – major fail – packed my bag but no shampoo 🙁 thankfully Alecia is like the ultimate Italian mom and has a drawer ‘o’ everything in her office, where I was able to find some shampoo!
Juliet: Learn to Box this morning was tough. The instructor, Joe, is great! He holds you accountable for what you do in class and works with you to help you avoid cheating yourself. While it’s tough, it’s super effective. If you haven’t tried a boxing class, this would be a good one to try!
After two workouts before noon, I’m pretty wiped. I’m so tired, I’m not even hungry. That’s rare for me.
Mid-Morning: 10:00am to 12:00pm
Ashli: Go, go, go was the mentality of the day! Meetings and appointments and all sorts of stuff kept me from eating my lunch BUT I felt I really had the energy to be on the go. I know I keep saying it but there is something about the accomplishment factor of working out in the morning that feels so amazing!
Juliet: This was my recovery time. I stopped home to shower and let my dogs out. Lucky for me, I have a boss who understands the importance of health and fitness and doesn’t mind me taking this time off on Wednesdays as long as I make up my time. This is great! If a class or program doesn’t fit your schedule. Why not ask your boss if they mind you taking an hour or two once a week to help meet your fitness goals. They may surprise you!
Lunchtime: 12:00pm to 2:00pm
Ashli: I’ve had approximately 120 ounces of water so far today – maybe it’s the weather or the fact that I’m moving a lot earlier than my body is used to but I sort of love that my water bottle is such a staple in my daily activities now!
Juliet: I am so happy for lunch. This is what I needed. I started to get hungry around 12:30pm and once I ate, my energy instantly returned. I was no longer exhausted from the morning workouts (but my legs are still sore). My quinoa and veggies gave me the kick in the behind I needed to get through the day!
The Afternoon: 2:00pm to 4:00pm
Ashli: I’m just getting around to lunch – Subway. Fun fact: I just recently got into banana peppers and I love them!!
Juliet: I’m surprised to say that my energy has yet to fade. I’ve been powering through a number of work tasks with nothing slowing me down. Who knew exercise could give you energy. I always thought it would take energy!
The Evening: 4:00pm to 7:00pm
Ashli: So part of the reason I was able to work out a little later today is because I work a little later on Wednesday’s…and if you thought I needed energy for the preschoolers I taught on Monday, you have no idea how much I need for the Teens I work with on Wednesday nights! Leaders Club is a blast though and I love being able to match their enthusiasm by putting everything I’ve got left in the tank into this final 1 hour meeting!
As far as Thursday is about to be concerned – you should know, it’s my favorite day of the week! And I’ve got a little surprise in store for you! So make sure you check us out tomorrow morning!!!
Juliet: I’m super jealous of Ashli’s Subway lunch and I’m happy to welcome her to the banana pepper lovers club! And as much fun as it was to do two workouts today, I am extremely tired this evening. So it’s going to be an early night followed by another early morning. See you on Instagram!
