The focus of this group is to improve stroke technique across the 4 strokes along with conditioning and forming a strong team atmosphere while teaching the swimmers good sportsmanship. The Junior1 group continue to build on the basic fundamentals of the four competitive strokes, including starts, turns and endurance training. Junior1 Group swimmers must be able to swim a legal 100 of freestyle, a 50 of backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Junior 1 swimmers will learn proper practice etiquette in regards to circle swimming, passing, reading the pace clock, staying in order, and proper use of equipment during practice. Junior 1 members should be attending YMCA dual meets with goals of attending Invitationals, Leagues, and Y States. The 4 core values of the YMCA are an essential part of the Junior 1 group and team culture.
