Do you think you have what it takes to complete the IronJanuary Challenge? IronJanuary is a virtual event in which you complete the Ironman distances on your own throughout the month of January (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run).
You have from 12:00AM January 1, 2019 to 11:59PM January 31, 2019 to complete your 2.4 swim, 112 bike, and 26.2 run. Note: you do not have to complete each distance at once–break it up however you need to!
While we hope to seeing you completing the challenge at the Y, you can literally be anywhere and do the challenge!
Swim: The Y pool is 25 yards. This converts to 4,224 yards. We are rounding up to 4,250! Any stroke can be used to complete the required distance (e.g. freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, or even doggy paddling). A great way to get your yards in is with our Masters swim program!
Bike: We think the best place to complete your miles will be in our popular spin classes. Just take note of the miles at the end of class. You can also use the bikes on the fitness floor. For those hardy souls you may ride outdoors!
Run/Walk: You can walk or run using indoor track, fitness room treadmills, or of course on the roads. Join a run groups to make it a social journey.
How To Accept the Challenge
Sign up at the front desk – your $10 suggested donation will get you a rockin’ T shirt and help give the lifesaving gift of swimming lessons to a child through the YMCA’s Safety Around Water program.
There is a log book at the front desk with the other class sign up binders. Each participant will have a page to log his or her journey. We would love to see photos of you ‘racing’! Post them to the social media of your choice using the hashtag #IronJanuary and tag your local YMCA!
Once you complete IronJanuary you’ll be ready to sign up for the Guilderland Indoor Tri, one of our spring Tri Training programs, and the May 5th Anyone Can Tri event.
