After arriving last night, being assigned their rooms, enjoying a tasty dinner on the veranda of the JIY and a bit of blogging, everyone headed off to bed to get a good night’s sleep in the Jerusalem air.  They woke up refreshed and ready to go.  Starting with a beautiful buffet breakfast (yes we talk a lot about food but this is Israel) we headed out to the Old City to a Catholic church for mass. It was conducted all in Arabic but was familiar to many especially when his sermon include the word “Facebook”.   As we had a little time before meeting the guide we headed back to the Jaffa Gate by a circuitous route which included the 8th station of the cross.  Our guide walked us all around the old city.  We stopped in front of the Lutheran Church where he explained about how they figured out where Jesus was buried before we headed over to the Church of the Holy Seplechure.  We stopped for lunch where many had their first taste of shwarma or falafel (that food thing again) before heading over to the Jewish Quarter.  There we learned about the Temple and its practices as well as its destruction and the archeological finds that have been uncovered.  We visited the Western Wall and placed personal notes in it before heading back to our home at the JIY.  We had a short break before being met by Devorah for a tour.  We were joined by some of the local youth and after the tour we heard about their programs.  To end the day we enjoyed a traditional iftar meal (the break fast meal of Ramadan) together with them and off to blogging and bed before we head up north tomorrow.
