Why You Should Listen to a Podcast While You Work Out
People listen to podcasts while doing a number of mundane activities—driving, cleaning the house, walking the dog, or while at their desk, but have you ever listened to one while you work out? Maybe it’s time to take a break from your gym playlist and try something new!
I know what you’re thinking. Podcasts are boring. You need something to pump you up while you work out. Or, you’ve never tried. But, listening to a podcast during your gym session could really boost productivity. Here are 4 reasons you should give it a try:
It’s something to look forward to
A lot of podcasts are created like television shows. They are a series of episodes that lead up to a season finale. Just like you get excited to see the new episode of Grey’s Anatomy, you will be equally as excited to hear the new episode of Serial. It’s a great way to get yourself out of bed and into the gym. You can’t listen to the next episode until you start your workout. It’s a great motivational tool!
It prolongs your workout
Just like you’re excited to start the next episode, you won’t want to finish your workout until the episode ends. Podcast can have a run time of anything from 30 minutes to 2 and 1/2 hours. Just like you don’t end the new Grey’s Anatomy episode halfway through, you won’t want to end the podcast episode halfway. It helps you commit to a full workout.
It’s a distraction
And I don’t mean a distraction from your workout. If you’re someone who gets antsy and thinks about how tired you are throughout the entire workout, a podcast can help! Instead of focusing on how tired you are while running on the treadmill, you will be distracted by the details of your podcast. Whether that’s listening to a true crime story, a wellness podcast, or a comedian interview, you’ll be thinking about the content as opposed to your fatigue.

There are thousands of podcasts out there. There will be one that motivates you. Maybe you need something a little more upbeat so you choose a comedy podcast that keeps your adrenaline high, or maybe you need a gripping, episodic tale to get through, or maybe you need to listen to the benefits of health and fitness while reaping those benefits—either way, there is something that will inspire you to have an effective workout!
