Giving Teens a Safe Place to be Teens

For 25 years, Teen Nite has been one of the Capital District YMCA’s most impactful youth development programs, providing teens in Albany with a safe place to gather, build friendships, and grow into leaders.

Launched as part of the YMCA’s Gang Prevention initiative, Teen Nite has served as a vital alternative for youth on Saturday nights. The program alternates between Green Tech High School during the school year and Albany parks during the summer, giving teens a consistent and trusted environment to play basketball, eat food, listen to music, and hang out with friends.

Teen Nite alumni have gone on to become leaders in their own communities, including Taylor Battle, Assistant Basketball Coach at Northwestern University, and Kevin Skeen, a successful local business owner.

Now Mobile: Teen Nite and Y on the Fly

As a flagship program of the new Y on the Fly mobile unit, Teen Nite is expanding its reach and accessibility. Y on the Fly allows us to bring Teen Nite into more neighborhoods across the Capital Region, delivering high-impact youth programming right where it’s needed most. With mobile access to sports equipment, games, mentorship, and healthy snacks, Teen Nite can now serve even more teens—especially in areas where safe recreational spaces are limited or disappearing.
